Sun Yang clinches Men’s 400m freestyle title: Day two – 2011 Chinese Long Course Nationals
Day two of the 2011 Chinese Long Course Nationals got-off a strong start with the scintillating swim of Sun Yang in the freestyle swimming final heat in Rizhao, China, on Friday, September 23. Sun Yang of China took home the Men’s 400m freestyle crown, while
Sun Xiaolei secured gold medal in the Men’s 50m back-stroke final heat.
Sun Yang powered the wall with a record time of 3 minutes and 40.29 seconds to win the golden crown on the podium. More importantly, Sun thrashed Zhang Lin’s Asian previous best meet record of 3 minutes and 41.35 seconds, set back at the 2009 World Championships,
in Rome. Moreover, Sun beat Ous Mellouli’s previous best meet record of 3 minutes and 41.11 seconds. The victory also moved Sun to the top-three spot in the world rankings of swimming.
Paul Biedermann holds the number one position with a mark of 3 minutes and 40.07 seconds, whereas, Ian Thorpe retains number two place with a time of 3 minutes and 40.08 seconds. In the corresponding race, Li Yungi secured second position on the podium with
an impressive mark of 3 minutes and 49.17 seconds, whereas, the third place time was not reported online due to some technical reasons.
Afterwards, the Men’s 50m back-stroke crown clinched by Sun Xiaolie after he touched the finishing wall to post a winning time of 24.87 seconds. Most importantly, Xiaolei beat his previous best meet record of 25.02 seconds, set back in April, 2011. The win
also elevated Sun Xiaolie to the top-25 spots in the world rankings of swimming. In the corresponding swim, Cheng Feiyi was placed second on the podium as he ended his swim with a mark of 25.29 seconds.
All contestants put in their best effort in an attempt to win the race in their respective meet. The arena gave a huge ovation to all swimmers of the meet due to their inspiring performances and the winners were awarded medals and accolades after session
completed.
