Sun Yang earns Men’s 400m freestyle gold – 2012 Chinese National Swimming Championships
Sun Yang of Zhejiang earned gold medal of the Men’s 400m freestyle on day two of the 2012 Chinese National Long Course Swimming Championship in Huangshan, Anhui Province on Monday, September 24.
Yang, who won gold medal of the 400m and 1500m freestyle at the 2012 London Olympic Games, continued his nerve-wrecking form at the national platform to defend his title.
The Chinese veteran Yang, who improved his own world record of the 1500m freestyle at these Olympic Games, showed no signs of slowing down in the eight-lap event and touched the wall for gold medal.
His alluring efforts remained almost four body lengths ahead of his closest swimmer as he made his way to the victory stand for gold medal by producing a time of 3 minutes and 43.97 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Yunqi Li of Henan, who stayed 3.99 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall as second position holder by producing a time of 3 minutes and 47.96 seconds.
Similarly, Li was traced by Kecheng Wang of Hunan, who remained almost five seconds slower from overpowering his preceding swimmer and tapped the wall for bronze medal with an effort of 3 minutes and 52.77 seconds.
Later, Fenglin Zhang of Shandong grabbed gold medal of the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM). Zhang stayed comfortably ahead of his competitors throughout the discipline and touched the wall for gold medal.
His stupendous effort remained one and a half body length ahead of his closest competitor as he touched the wall for gold medal with a timing of 1 minute and 59.79 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Zhixian Yang of Hunan, who stayed 1.24 seconds away from him and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 01.03 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Feilian Mao of Zhejiang, who stayed 0.07 seconds slower from his former finisher and touched the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 01.10 seconds.
In addition, Yang received a huge round of applause from the audience for his notable efforts in the 400m event and collected his award after the race.
