Sun Yang earns Men’s 800m freestyle gold title: Day four – 2011 FINA World Championships
Sun Yang of China earned the gold medal of Men’s 800m freestyle meet on fourth day of the ongoing Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA) organised 2011 World Championships on Wednesday, July 27, in Shanghai, China.
Yang claimed the gold medal of the event, by submitting an astounding time of 7 minutes and 38.57 seconds. His time was 6.45 seconds behind the championship and world mark of 7 minutes and 32.12 seconds, made by Zhang Lin of China during the 2009 World Championships
in Rome.
He was almost three seconds faster from his closest competitor, Ryan Cochrane of Canada, who clinched the silver medal, by completing his swim in a fabulous time of 7 minutes and 41.86 seconds. Cochrane was followed by a Hungarian swimmer, Gergo Kis, who
was 3.08 seconds slower than Cochrane and reached the podium for the bronze medal, by reporting in a time of 7 minutes and 44.94 seconds.
Kis was in a lead of 1.05 seconds from the Tunisian swimmer, Oussama Mellouli, who obtained fourth best spot of the swim, by clocking a time of 7 minutes and 45.99 seconds. Pal Joensen of France emerged as the fifth best swimmer of the sixteen-lap event,
as he stayed 0.52 seconds behind his former swimmer and posted a time of 7 minutes and 46.51 seconds. In addition, the arena sighted the gruelling efforts of Chad la Tourette of USA, who tried his best to overwhelm Joensen but failed to do so with a difference
of only 0.01 seconds.
La Tourette finished his swim in sixth best place, with a timing of 7 minutes and 46.52 seconds. He was followed by his team-member, Peter Vanderkaay, who attained the seventh fastest spot of the swim, by producing a time of 7 minutes and 46.64 seconds.
The eighth spot was secured by Sebastien Rouault of France, who stayed nearly nine second behind Vanderkaay and posted a time of 7 minutes an55.91 seconds.
The session concluded after beautiful efforts of all participants, while the championship will conclude on July 31 after the completion of all swimming events.
