Sun Yang one step away from defending Men’s 1500m freestyle title – London Olympic Games
World record holder of the distant freestyle event, Sun Yang of China dominated the preliminary rounds of the Men’s 1500m freestyle on day seven of the swimming events at the 2012 London Olympic Games in London Aquatics Centre on Friday, August 3.
The 20-year-old Yang demonstrated his stupendous efforts in the qualifying rounds of the discipline and is only one-step away from defending his title. He continued his unrelenting efforts throughout the 30-lap discipline and transpired on the finishing
blockade as top contender for gold medal.
With his unimaginable efforts, he stayed three body lengths faster from his strongest competitor and tapped the finishing wall with the timing of 14 minutes and 43.25 seconds.
His gruelling pace was chased by Oussama Mellouli of Tunisia, who stayed nearly three seconds apart and secured second best qualification spot of the event by posting a time of 14 minutes and 46.23 seconds.
Mellouli was followed by Ryan Cochrane of Canada, who was 3.08 seconds apart and secured third finest qualification spot of the discipline by submitting an effort of 14 minutes and 49.31 seconds.
The Canadian swimmer was trailed by Gregorio Paltrinieri of Italy, who stayed nearly one body length behind and secured fourth fastest qualifying position with an effort of 14 minutes and 50.11 seconds.
Subsequently, fifth fastest qualification spot of the discipline was obtained by Daniel Fogg of Great Britain, who stayed almost six seconds away from his former finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 14 minutes and 56.12 seconds.
Fogg was chased by Park Taehwan of Korea, who stayed 0.77 seconds slower from his former finisher and appeared on the wall with an effort of 14 minutes and 56.89 seconds for sixth place.
Seventh spot of the swim was secured by Connor Jaeger of USA, who was 0.67 seconds apart and clocked a time of 14 minutes and 57.56 seconds.
Similarly, Jaeger was traced by Mateusz Sawrymowicz of Poland, who finished eighth in the race with an effort of 14 minutes and 57.59 seconds.
Furthermore, Yang stated that he would try his best to capture gold medal of the event.
