Sun Yang pockets Men’s 1500m freestyle gold – 2012 Chinese National Swimming Championships
Sun Yang of Zhejiang pocketed gold medal of the Men’s 1500m freestyle on fourth day of the 2012 Chinese National Long Course Swimming Championships in Huangshan, Anhui Province on Wednesday, September 26.
Yang, who captured the crown of 400m and 1500m freestyle at the 2012 London Olympics, continued his dominance at the national level and faced no trouble in defending his title.
Earlier, Yang went full rampant in the 200m and 400m freestyle at the national championships and secured his third gold medal of the tournament in the 1500m discipline.
He showed no leniency to his opponents in the thirty-lap freestyle event and transpired on the finishing blockade as top fastest finisher by producing a time of 14 minutes and 50.30 seconds.
His gold claiming effort remained almost half a minute ahead of his following swimmer, Yun Hao of Hebei, who followed him on the victory stand for silver medal by submitting a time of 15 minutes and 20.25 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Wang Kecheng of Hunan, who stayed 2.08 seconds slower from overpowering his preceding swimmer and emerged on the medal rostrum for bronze medal with an effort of 15 minutes and 22.33 seconds.
Afterwards, the focus of the arena shifted towards the final event of the tournament, Men’s 4*100m freestyle relay. The relay team of Guangdong dominated the race from the start and proved their eligibility for the title.
The Guangdong relay squad remained comfortably ahead of their following team and touched the wall for gold medal with a timing of 3 minutes and 38.47 seconds.
The gold winning team was followed by Beijing’s squad that stayed 2.98 seconds slower and appeared on the finishing end as second best finisher by producing a time of 3 minutes and 41.45 seconds for silver medal.
Third finest spot of the race was obtained by relay team of Shanghai, which remained 2.05 seconds behind and clocked an effort of 3 minutes and 43.50 seconds for bronze medal.
In addition, Yang expressed happiness over his victory in the distant freestyle event and raked accolades for his performance after the event.
