Sun Young Yoo a rising LPGA star
South Korean Sun Young Yoo had been out of form before winning her maiden major title in the 2012 season, but with the new season set to kick off from February 2013, she has once again grabbed
the spotlight.
Yoo stunned spectators at Kraft Nabisco Championship in April 2012, as she won the major event by outrivaling fellow South Korean I.K. Kim in playoff.
It had been two long years without a triumph, so winning the Kraft Nabisco Championship came as a huge surprise to herself and her fans.
Now that the South Korean golfer has dispelled concerns over her performance, she is aiming another victory in the 2013 season. However, it remains to be seen how she tackles the pressure
from strong rivals.
Not just the major title, Yoo’s overall performance has been remarkable in the 2012 season. She recorded a total four top-ten finishes, pocketing a hefty $781,587.
Although she did not look strong at the start of the season because she failed to make the cut at the ISPS Handa Australian Open 2012. The tournament was the first event of the season, so
her fans’ expectations had been high.
However, the young gun atoned for this by recording a second-place finish at the Kia Classic 2012. She posted a total score of 280. Getting off to a fast start to her campaign, Yoo posted
a 69 in the first round.
Keeping her momentum going, she carded a 67 in the third round to further cement her position on the leaderboard.
The Mobile Bay LPGA Classic 2012 was another battle that saw Yoo unveil her best game. She carded a total score of 276 to take the share of fourth position on the leaderboard.
She then participated in the Sybase Match Play Championship 2012 in May, where she finished tied for the 9th position on the leaderboard.
The last tournament of the 2012 season—CME Group Titleholders—could have ended on a promising note. Yoo posted an overall 286 to take the share of 24th position.
Yoo made a good start as she carded a 66 in the first round, but could not keep the momentum intact in the last three rounds.
She shared her thoughts at the end of the first round, saying she has worked hard on her short game.
“Actually I had my coach here earlier in the week and he told me to grip down a little bit when I putt so I can hit more relaxed,” Yoo said while speaking to the LPGA Tour.
