Sun Young Yoo vows to continue her Kraft Nabisco form at Lotte Championship
South Korean Sun Young Yoo appears to be in high spirits after grabbing her first major title at Kraft Nabisco Championship, as she has vowed to do her best at the LPGA Lotte Championship.
The $1.7 million tournament is going to be held from April 18-21 at Ko Olina Golf Club, in Oahu Hawaii, with a strong field, comprising most of the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) professionals.
Some of the big names the field contains include the current world number one Yani Tseng, Paula Creamer, Lexi Thompson and Suzann Pettersen.
However, Yoo appears to be in a stronger position than most of the contenders, given her stellar performance at the first major event of the 2012 season.
Analysts said that Yoo may find it hard to cut big names down size, but she proved at the Kraft Nabisco Championship that she has resilience and can surprise rivals in even the toughest conditions.
The South Korean star improved her ranking to 15th in women’s golf, following her major triumph — something, analysts said, will keep her motivated while battling rivals at Hawaii.
Speaking of her stunning landmark performance, Yoo said that she was more than thrilled when she hoisted the major trophy at the Mission Hills Country Club.
She said that she had long been seeking to win a major tournament, but never thought that she would be able to beat LPGA titans like Yani Tseng and Paula Creamer.
Yoo said that she is a bit modest, as she still sees herself as an ordinary player — even after racking up one of the most coveted titles in women’s golf.
"It was my dream winning a major and I couldn't believe I won," Yoo said. "Everybody is calling me as a major champion now but I'm the still same person".
It remains to be seen how Yoo will fare against her rivals, but according to her tough training schedule, the major winner has been able to fix her putting lapses in recent weeks.
“I've been working so hard on my game and I just want to believe that hard work pays off. My goal for the rest of season is two wins and to finish in the top 10 on the money list. I want to be a very consistent player for my career," Yoo said.
