Sun Yu stuns Tee Jing Yi in Women’s Singles qualifying round – Singapore Open 2013
China’s budding shuttler, Sun Yu, was impressive in the arena and she stormed into Women’s Singles main round after crushing Malaysia’s Tee Jing Yi in qualifying round contest at Li Ning Singapore Open 2013 on
Tuesday, June 18, in Singapore.
The un-seeded Sun, who showed her remarkable skills in the qualifying round, continued hunting her rivals in style. She played with great precision and speed, outplaying her higher-ranked Malaysian challenger
in just 33 minutes.
The Chinese contender proved that she belongs to another class, as she played flawless game and registered a comprehensive victory over her Malaysian rivals with a spectacular 21-9 and 21-12 total on the score
board. On the contrary, the third seeded Jing Yi was shocked with the aggression of her Chinese opponent. She tried to employ all of her skills but failed to match the tempo of rallies and eventually crashed out in a completely lopsided fashion.
Sun was absolutely superb in her shot selection and execution as she did not miss any chance to take over the charge in the starting game. She did not hesitate testing all of her strokes and remained successful
in setting up a wonderful lead in the opening points.
Jing Yi tried to play aggressive badminton but she could not dominate the pace. She failed to get behind the bird and remained struggling to catch up the pace. Until the one-minute break, she was far behind her
challenger on the score board.
After the break, Sun continued her excellent play without facing any considerable problem from her Malaysian challenger. She easily finished up the first set with an inspiring 21-9 score on the board.
In the following set, the lower ranked Sun maintained her supremacy on court by playing at the same pace. She was smooth in her movement that enabled her to take the bird quite early and she easily set up a considerable
lead until the break.
Chinese lady remained in full control of the game after the one-minute break. She did not allow her rival to narrow the gap and easily finished off the second set with a stunning 21-12 score on the board.
