Sun Yu topples Xiaoyu Liang to prove her supremacy in qualifying round of Thailand Open 2012
China’s young shuttler Sun Yu proved her supremacy in the arena when she stormed into Women’s Singles main round after toppling Singapore’s Xiaoyu Liang in qualifying round clash at the SCG Thailand Open 2012 on Tuesday, June 5, in Thailand.
The upcoming Chinese lady was in impressive form while playing against her Singaporean opponent and emerged as the winner in an impressive fashion with a comprehensive margin on the board.
The in-form Sun showed her brilliance as she was fully focused in the court and managed to outplay her Singaporean rival in straight games while taking just 38 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Xiaoyu failed to match the speed and skills of her Chinese opponent and bowed to her without putting up strong show.
In the first game, Sun showed her aggression and took an early lead of 4-0. However, the Singaporean played well and levelled the score but failed to take lead as the Chinese was quick in taking the bird.
Until the one-minute break in this Women’s Singles clash, it was the Chinese who set up a reasonable lead of 11-8 on the score board.
After the break, the Chinese shuttler remained consistent in her impressive play and stretched her lead against Xiaoyu. She did not let her rival to narrow the gap and ended up the set with a superb 21-14 score on the board.
In the second game, Xiaoyu played much better badminton as she did not commit unforced error at the early stage and remained equal to her Chinese opponent until the break.
In the meanwhile, Sun tried her best to take lead but failed to disturb the flow of her Singaporean opponent until the end of first half.
After the break, both ladies continued their impressive performance in the court and reached at 12-12 when Sun showed her brilliance and took a stunning lead while remaining quick in all areas.
She played with precision and managed to manipulate the loopholes of her rival and eventually bagged the game with a 21-15 margin on the board.
The in-form Sun overpowered Xiaoyu in two games of 38 minutes with a difference of 21-14 and 21-15.
