  1. I have had a conure (Jazz) for years.  A great bird, and wonderful pet (though a Conure can and will get on your nerves).

I hate to correct some of the earlier posts, but I must.

    1) Do not cover the bird at night.  This is not a parakeet or a canary.  These are very intellegent and curious birds and they do like to see what is going on.  If you cover them, they get more stressed.

    2) Do not wait to play with the conure.  I am not quite sure why people recommend this, it is a bad idea.  Play with the bird right when you get home with it.  You want the bird to first bond with you, not bond with the cage.  This is extremely important.  Parrots do learn to love their cage, but let them love you first.  The conure will quickly get to know you and will be able to be trained the first night: sitting on finger, shoulder, etc.

    3) The earlier post said not to bring other people near the cage.  Again, this is a horrible idea.  Trust me on this.  Bring as many people as you can near the cage.  It is very important to "socialize" your parrot.  In other words, the parrot (even from the start) must be used to a wide array of people.  Otherwise, the parrot will freak out when someone new just enters the house.  Every chance you get, introduce the bird to new people.

Ok.... so I love my conure.   They are loud, they are obnoxoius.  They have great personalities, they want to play all the time.  They want to eat everything you are eating, they want to get involved with your work.  In a sense, they become part of the family (and sometimes think they run the family).

Also, conures need a spacious house.  If you have a small apartment or house, it will not work.  You need a room in which you can put them away for a while, or a room in which they will not directly see you (you will want the break every once and a while).

    Enjoy your Conure!

  2. Trevor, you have to go with Adam.

I have several serval types of conures and love them all.

My Sun loves to ride on my shoulder in the car and on the bicycle.

The only “bad” thing I can think of is the sun will chase away anyone they don’t like. I also recommend potty training.

  3. i just got a conure myself yesturday !!! its a sun conure im in love! the people at the pet store {pet land discounts} were very social to the bird i bought and he is a colorful sweet heart. now there going to be scared at first so what so your do and what u shouldnt do isss

do: cover it with a towel at night

don't: let the people be all by the cage

do:stick your hand in the cage just to feed him and give him water

dont: pick him up for a good to days

do:talk to him like u would talk 2  a baby(call him pretty bird, whisper in a low nice clam voice. if he starts screaming calm him down.

my bird loves cheerios oranges and apples.

u want to find a bird that is handled. deffantily!!!! get his wings clipped no doubt about it get them clipped. when i first went to get my bird they couldnt catch him. so please have the people clip his wings. he will bond better with you alot better

  4. The only way I would cover my birds cage up was if I lived in the 1800's  and didn't have a good heating and cooling system in my home. They DO NOT need a cover over their cage unless you live in a drafty house. Set the bird cage where you want to set it. Then light a candle and hold it on all four sides of the cage and see if the flame flickers or if it stays straight up. I think that it scares some birds to have this cover over the cage. If that is the only way you can give your bird 10 hours of sleep a night then cover it up. Purchase a book about Conure. There are some that can be bought very cheap on Ebay. I buy all kinds of bird books on there for less than five dollars.
