Sunday Series at Harlow recap
Harlow hosted a series of open races yesterday, including three maiden races bookended by the Sunday Sprint and the Sunday Standard.
The £100 Sunday Sprint saw 10-1 longshot, Swift Top Lady, take top spot by 2 lengths over Knights Pride. Top Lady led early after getting the inside spot near the rails. Rahyvira Honcho took third spot, a ½ length back of Pride, and 6-4 race favourite, Fridays Scorpion, finished in fourth after getting off to a slow start. In fifth was Giveittome, and another 10-1 longshot, Minnies Tyrana, finished in last.
The first of the three maiden races was the £100 Harlow Sunday Maiden Standard. Benro Blackie, the 6-4 race favourite, escaped the pack early, and won by 10 ¾ lengths over Fast Boy. The rest of the field raced tight, effectively slowing each other down and allowing Blackie to get the easy win. In third behind Fast Boy was Syzygy, and in fourth was Sophies Ted. Joyces Pride took fifth by a head over Attykitt Lane.
Aislongs Maldini won the £100 Harlow Sunday Stayers Maiden by 5 lengths over Barryjohns Boy. The 1-2 race favourite took the lead on the second bend, and then stuck to the rails to win the race. Barryjohns had a good start, but stayed wide coming out of the sixth trap, and couldn’t catch up to Maldini. In third was Hi Rosie, who finished 3 ½ lengths back of Barryjohns. Another 5 ¾ lengths behind Rosie was Lisnakill Lar, and behind him by 5 ¾ lengths in last was Barra Rupert. Hannabananna was pulled from the race and not replaced.
Another race favourite, Little Phoebe at 6-4, won the final maiden race of the day, the £100 Harlow Sunday Maiden Stayers. Phoebe looked good from the traps, taking the lead on the first bend, and finishing 1 ¼ lengths ahead of Pretty Maldini. In third was Black Limousine, who finished ¾ lengths ahead of Eager For Battle. Taking fifth was Blue Mover, and in last was Liscahane Rita.
The final race of Harlow’s Sunday series was the £150 Harlow Sunday Standard. Connor Pass Joe, a 10-1 longshot, got off to the best start of the group and led early, but at the halfway point of the race Steady Major took the lead, and finished the race in first place, 1 ¼ lengths ahead of Baltylum Houdini. Pass Joe dropped all the way back to fourth place, 1 ¼ lengths behind third place finisher Brother Fitz. In fifth was Tipp Are Back, and in last was Avit.
