Sunderland Boss Steve Bruce denies N'Zogbia interest; Chelsea prepare a €40 million bid for Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos
Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has said that there is no truth in the rumours of Charles N’Zogbia making a move to The Black Cats from Wigan Athletic.
Former Newcastle United player N’Zogbia has been speculated to leave the DW Stadium before this season's transfer window closes, and is linked with a number of clubs in the Premier League, including Sunderland.
Steve Bruce has been an admirer of N’Zogbia and bought him when he was the manager of Wigan. He said that N’Zogbia is a quality player and would add value to any Premier League team, but for now, he is not on his way to the Stadium of Light.
Bruce said that at this point, he has what he needs in his squad, and on top of that, it would also not be a wise decision financially for Sunderland to indulge in the transfer. He added that the touted 'move' is just media speculation and nothing more.
Steve Bruce does have money to spend, though, as Sunderland made a deal selling Kenwyne Jones to Stoke City for 8 million pounds. However, the Sunderland manager insisted that he is not interested in buying the French international.
Meanwhile, reigning Premier League champions Chelsea are believed to be lining up a sensational bid for the 2010 World Cup winning right-back Sergio Ramos. According to the Spanish media, Chelsea are set to make a 40 million Euros bid for the Real Madrid defender, and talks had been underway ever since Ricardo Carvalho made his way to Real Madrid.
Chelsea have not been making too much noise in the transfer window, and Manchester City have been doing all the spending in the English Premier League. Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is believed to be tired of taking a backseat as far as spending in the English game is concerned, and is getting ready to splash the cash at the tail-end of the transfer window.
Chelsea are also believed to be frustrated by the break down in the deal with Santos defender Neymar. Now the Blues are reportedly determined to get their hands on the Madrid right-back.
Sergio Ramos was one of the most influential players in the World Cup for Spain; he has also been performing consistently for Madrid over the last few seasons and is believed to be hungry for silverware that has yet eluded Madrid.
The bid is believed to be with the contract of 5 years for Ramos, and he would be paid an enormous amount of 10 million Euros per season. Chelsea is believed to be working hard to finalize the deal before the transfer window closes on the 31st of August.
In this transfer window, Chelsea has made just two big signings: Yossi Benayoun, the winger from Liverpool, and Ramires, the Brazilian midfielder from Portuguese club Benfica.
Jose Mourinho, on the other hand, has said that he has no plans of selling Ramos to his former club. Mourinho said that he needs Ramos for the new season and he is one of the most important players in his back line. The former Chelsea coach said that Sergio is a player that has been with the club for a long time and understands the culture of Madrid well. He added that to establish a successful team at Madrid, he would need such players in the squad. Mourinho said that instead of selling Ramos, the club is more interested in signing a front man. Real Madrid has been linked with Fernando Llorente, Emmanuel Adebayor or Edin Dzeko. Mourinho said that before the transfer window closes, he would like to bring one quality striker to the club and that would end his summer shopping.
