Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown will most likely be sidelined with a knee injury he sustained in the FA Cup clash against Middlesbrough for up to eight weeks.
Brown picked up the injury in the 1-1 stalemate against the Championship side and could now be out of action for Sunderland for almost two months. It was initially assumed the injury would keep him out until the end of the season but scans and further tests
revealed otherwise.
The Black Cats manager Martin O’Neill confirmed that while the player did not require an operation, he would be in a brace for at least two weeks. He revealed that the player could expect to be sidelined for up to eight months before he could return to training
with the rest of the squad.
O’Neill said while speaking to reporters:
“We don't think he needs the operation, but he will be two weeks in a brace, two weeks elsewhere and you are looking at probably about eight weeks before he is back.
But at one stage, it looked like a season-ending injury.”
Brown is not the only injury concern the Northern Irish manager has as he looks towards resuming the second half of the Premier League season. O’Neill could also have to do without David Vaughan, with the midfielder damaging his ankle in the same FA Cup
game.
O’Neill confirmed that Vaughan would go on to miss the next few weeks, but revealed that the player was feeling a lot better. He said he was hopeful the swelling on his injury would go down and in a few weeks time Vaughan would also be fit for training.
He revealed:
“http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 was feeling better today, but he is still very, very sore and the swelling is still up, and we are looking at a few weeks for him.”
Meanwhile, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lee-Cattermole-c21868 had picked up a hamstring strain, missing the FA Cup clash. However, he has recovered since then  and could be fit to return to training soon.
O’Neill continued:
“Lee is feeling a lot better and he is hoping to start running at the back end of next week.”
