The new Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill revealed he was hoping to make a graceful return to the game of football when his side took on Blackburn Rovers in the English Premier League. The former Aston Villa boss had been unemployed since resigning from
the post of the Villains manager in 2010.
After a year of being out of the game, O’Neill returns as manager of the Black Cats and his first task will be to take on the resurgent Rovers. The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Northern-Ireland-c2972 international replaced Steve Bruce at the Stadium of Light.
O’Neill said while speaking to reporters:
“It's been particularly hectic. It's trying to get to know players, backroom staff, and they likewise with me. But the excitement is still there, obviously building up to Sunday's game, and I'm looking forward to it immensely.”
His first task as manager of the team was to get well acquainted with his new squad, getting to know them better before the match day. O’Neill has tried to do his best to get to know his players better, in training and otherwise.
He is attempting to rebuild an atmosphere of confidence, to help Sunderland return to winning ways. Despite spending a lot in the summer transfer window, the Black Cats had a terrible start to the new season and find themselves in the bottom half of the
Premier League table.
O’Neill revealed:
“We have to address the goal scoring situation, obviously, and as soon as possible. The backroom staff have been telling me that we have been creating chances in games but have been unable to put them away.”
According to O’Neill, their main task now was to stop conceding easy goals and try their best to get positive results from now on. He admitted he was looking forward to the clash against Blackburn Rovers, a match he expected to be a physical battle.
He continued:
“I'm expecting a real physical battle. We have to withstand the sort of pressure we know we're going to be put under.
Our http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 is to cause them as many problems as possible and galvanise ourselves, and in so doing get the crowd behind us.”
