Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill looking to bring in striker Asamoah Gyan
The new Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill, who replaced Steve Bruce at the Stadium of Light, revealed he was considering recalling striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033. However, nothing is certain as yet and there
are talks still going on.
Despite his predecessor bringing in as many as ten players in the summer transfer window, Sunderland have failed to perform this season. It is for this reason that the former Aston Villa boss is considering spiking up the strike force with the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ghana-c2905 international.
Gyan, who left in some controversial circumstances this September to UAE side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Al-Ain-c38290 could very well return under Martin O’Neill. It is understood that the player had some differences with the manager and not the club, which makes his return possible.
While O’Neill is aware that Sunderland are in dire need of further attacking options, he does not necessarily want to spend further in the winter transfer window. This is why he wants to bring back Gyan, who is already a Black Cats player.
O’Neill said while speaking to reporters:
“It's absolutely something that I'll address. I have to talk to Niall about exactly where we stand on that. His position will definitely be looked at.”
According to the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Northern-Ireland-c2972 international, Gyan was a talented player and would bring much to the Sunderland squad. However, there were matters that had to be resolved before his return could be finalised, for which he was in talks with Niall
Quinn.
Gyan joined Sunderland in the summer of 2010 for a record breaking fee of £13 million on a long term, four year deal. At his time at the Stadium of Light, Gyan went on to make 34 appearances in the English Premier League and found the back of the net ten
times.
O’Neill continued:
“He started off brilliantly, then things tapered away a little bit, so the potential is there. I don't know the lad at all, but I will have a look at it.”
His first season at the club was marred by injury, despite which he gave a brilliant performance.
