Sunderland boss Steve Bruce confident offloading Jordan Henderson to Liverpool was the right decision
Sunderland boss Steve Bruce revealed he believed the departure of youngster http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 under-21 international to Liverpool for an inflated
fee of £16 million and Steve Bruce said the sale had helped bring in various other signings.
Henderson to Liverpool along with the funds generated from the sale of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darren-Bent-c10358 to Aston Villa in the January transfer window for £24 million allowed Steve Bruce to splash out in the current transfer window. So far Sunderland have signed nine players
and according to Bruce, he was looking forward to making more signings.
Sunderland have signed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wes-Brown-c36791. The new signings are a sign of intent by Bruce, who is determined
to lead the Black Cats to a place in Europe next season.
Steve Bruce admitted it had been hard letting Henderson go, the 21-year-old midfielder had begun his career at the Stadium of Light. Henderson made his senior debut for Sunderland in the 2008-2009 season, making two appearances for the Black Cats before
he was loaned out to Championship side Coventry City for regular first team experience.
Upon his return, Henderson was given a more regular role in the squad, with the midfielder going on to make 38 appearances and scoring 2 goals in the 2009-2010 season. The following season he scored 3 goals in 39 appearances, with his overall performance
improving drastically for Sunderland. He now joins http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 on a long-term deal.
Bruce said while speaking to reporters:
“We were all saddened by the loss of Jordan.
But sometimes in football, if it happens and it's the right price - and you can better your squad - then you have to make a sacrifice.”
The Sunderland boss continued:
“We have used the money wisely, investing it in making the team and the club stronger and better.
The sale of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jordan-c2929 has enabled us to bring in nine new players over the summer - and I don't think we're finished yet.”
