Sunderland boss Steve Bruce confident over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Asamoah-Gyan-c6791, as striker vows to improve
Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan revealed he was ready to take on the challenge of trying to help the Black Cats reach the top six on the Premier League table this season. The 25-year-old Ghanaian striker begins his second season at the Stadium of Light and
in the English Premier League with a trip to Anfield to take on Liverpool.
Gyan arrived at the Premier League outfit from Ligue 1 side Rennes on a long-term four year deal for a fee of £13 million. Despite a hamstring injury because of which he was sidelined for the better part of the season, Gyan made a total of 33 appearances
in all competitions and managed an impressive goal tally of 11.
While Sunderland boss Steve Bruce initially signed the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darren-Bent-c10358, he soon found himself as a the first choice forward after Bent left for Aston Villa in the January transfer window. Gyan stepped up to his
new role but his progress was hampered by the unfortunate injury.
The Sunderland forward was confident he would do much better in his second season in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 and was willing to put himself to the test. Gyan revealed he was looking to exceed the number of goals he had scored last season and prove himself to the manager
and the supporters. The 25-year-old insisted he would take care better of his fitness, so as to not pick up injuries.
Gyan said in an interview:
“It's a challenge; it's a challenge to me. I came here and I have proved to everybody what I am capable of.
I think everybody will be expecting a lot, so I have to be ready to make sure I deliver the goals for the fans and for the club.”
Bruce was confident the striker would do much better this season, provided he did not pick up any injuries like last season. He went on to deny rumours of Gyan linked with a move away from the Stadium of Light, claiming he was not aware of interest in the
Ghanaian forward. Bruce said he was expecting great things from Gyan, who had the potential to improve further.
Bruce said while speaking to reporters:
“He has now had a season under his belt, he knows what the Premier League is, he knows we don't have a break at Christmas, so I hope he can have a big, big season.”
Steve Bruce praised Gyan’s performance for Sunderland during pre-season, but confirmed he had not decided on whether or not he was going to select the forward in the clash against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809. The Black Cats manager could decide to rest the powerful striker
to give him some rest until he is absolutely certain Gyan is completely fit.
The Sunderland boss continued:
“He has had a decent pre-season and I am sure he will be ready for the challenge of Liverpool - if he is selected.”
