Sunderland boss Steve Bruce eyes Connor Wickham and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ji-Dong-Won-c18522 partnership
Sunderland manager Steve Bruce revealed he had spoken to Connor Wickham and Ji Dong-won regarding their participation in the first team at the club. The youngsters have not yet had a chance to prove themselves at the Stadium of Light, but Bruce was certain
the two strikers would get their chance sooner than later.
The English manager has been using http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicklas-Bendtner-c27726 and Stephane Sessegnon in attack, with the partnership proving to be somewhat successful against West Bromwich Albion in Sunderland’s last Premier League fixture. It was Bendtner who scored for the Black
Cats to make the score 2-1, with Ahmed Elmohamady scoring the much needed equalizer.
Bendtner, who is at Sunderland on a season long loan move from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429, scored his debut goal for the Black Cats and expects to score regularly in the future. Meanwhile, Bruce has other options to use in attack; Wickham and Ji. Wickham has made six appearances
for Sunderland this season and Ji has made just one less, in all competitions.
The Black Cats boss was certain his side would improve after a poor start to the season once the team got used to playing together. Along with young strikers, Bruce brought in a long list of players in the summer transfer window and believes they need time
to adjust.
Bruce said while speaking to reporters:
“We keep saying this and we know we haven't got time, but we have made 10 or 11 changes, so it's important for all 10, 11 [to have time to gel].”
While he was pleased with the partnership Bendtner and Sessegnon had formed over the short period, he was willing to explore other options. The striking partnership of Wickham and Ji was something Bruce revealed he was willing to try out in the near future.
He continued:
“Sessegnon and Bendtner for a start - they have only been with each other for two or three weeks and they looked very, very good on Saturday.
But certainly, Connor and Ji are in my thoughts. Their time might be just around the corner too, so let's hope when they get their chance, they can give everybody a lift too.”
Wickham joined Sunderland for a fee of £10 million from Championship side Ipswich Town on a long term four year deal. He scored a goal in pre-season but is yet to find the back of the net since the new Premier League season began.
Ji, the 20-year-old South Korea international, caught the eye of the Sunderland boss during the 2011 Asian Cup, after which he signed for Sunderland for an undisclosed fee on a three year deal. The striker has featured and scored for Sunderland in pre-season
and in the Premier League in the 2-1 loss to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786.
