Sunderland boss Steve Bruce eyes players for possible loan moves to the Stadium of Light
Sunderland manager Steve Bruce revealed he was considering bringing some players to the Stadium of Light on loan moves, especially after the successful loan spells last season. The Black Cats have already made a dozen signings in the summer transfer window,
but Steve Bruce is not yet satisfied with his squad and intends to bring more players.
The likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Mensah-c18877 were brought over by Steve Bruce on a loan move and managed to do really well with the Black Cats. This has given the Sunderland boss confidence of repeating his success with players brought in on
a loan move. Bruce said while speaking to reporters:
“We would go down the route again if needs be.
I'm happy with the size and balance of the squad at the moment, though.
People tend to forget we had four or five loan players last year who played a big part for us.”
Welbeck, the 20-year-old striker c*m winger arrived at Sunderland in the summer of 2010 on a season long move from Manchester United, straight after a loan spell with Championship side Preston North End. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international made a total of 28 appearances
for Sunderland in all competitions, scoring 6 goals during that time.
Manchester City defender Onuoha was also signed the same season, going on to make 31 appearances in the Premier League for the Black Cats. The former England under-21 international even managed to find the back of the net once as he shone for Sunderland
last season. His most notable performance came against English Premier League giants http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, where Sunderland managed to steal a 3-0 win over the Blues.
Ligue 1 side Lyon’s central defender Mensah spent two seasons with Sunderland, during which time he made 34 appearances in the Premier League. Steve Bruce had the option of buying the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ghana-c2905 international on a more permanent basis, but it seems he will be
returning to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 after Bruce decided against signing him for €7 million.
Steve Bruce revealed that he had wanted to retain the services of some of the players that had come to Sunderland on loan, but did not have the option to do so. However, he hoped the new players he planned to bring on loan would produce the same results
the pervious arrivals had. Bruce continued:
“Look at Onuoha; he was a big, big player for us. Mensah was a good defender, but I couldn't go down that route because he was unavailable to us too often.
And of course Danny Welbeck did so well we've got no chance of getting him back - which is frustrating.”
