Sunderland manager Steve Bruce revealed he was pleased with new signing Sebastian Larsson, whose arrival had been highly beneficial for the Black Cats in the new English Premier League season. Among the various other arrivals at the Stadium of Light in the
summer transfer window, the 26-year-old Swedish winger has managed to establish a place in the starting line-up after impressive performances for his new side.
Larsson let his contract with Birmingham City run out and followed former teammate http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Craig-Gardner-c9475 to Sunderland after the club were relegated at the end of last season. The winger got off to a flying start with the Black Cats, scoring a crucial equalizer
against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 at Anfield on the opening day of the new Premier League season to earn his side a point.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sweden-c3015 international is considered a set piece specialist and he displayed his skills against Stoke City over the weekend; when his free kick at the edge of the penalty area found its way in the back of the net to give his side a 4-0 win. Bruce said
he had been looking to improve his side’s ability to convert set pieces and so far Larsson had proved to be the perfect find.
Bruce said while speaking to reporters:
“We knew when we brought Seb here that we needed to improve on set-pieces. For the two years I have been here, we haven't had anybody who's a so-called specialist.”
The Black Cats manager felt Larsson had played a vital role in his side’s big win over Stoke City, in addition to his set-piece conversion. Sunderland finished tenth on the Premier League table last season and are now looking for a top six finish, Bruce
was certain his side needed the expertise of someone like Larsson to achieve their aims in the current Premier League campaign.
He continued:
“It's vitally important in today's game. How often do we see it? Take Stoke, for example - how often do we see it that a game can be won on a set-piece?
We needed to improve there and certainly Seb has done that.”
