Sunderland boss Steve Bruce happy with versatile and consistent Stephane Sessegnon
Sunderland manager Steve Bruce admitted that while having Stephane Sessegnon in the squad presented him with the challenge of finding a suitable place for the 27-year-old; it was a task he welcomed. The attacking midfielder has shown he is extremely versatile,
possessing the ability to play in various positions on the field.
This sometimes makes it difficult for the Black Cats boss to determine where the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Benin-c2852 international would function to his fullest. However, according to Bruce, this was a problem he was happy to deal with as long as it meant having Sessegnon in his team.
The attacking midfielder arrived at the Stadium of Light in the January transfer window of 2011 from Paris Saint-Germain. Since then he has been given a variety of roles at the English Premier League club, most of which he has performed to perfection.
Bruce said while speaking to reporters:
“He gives you that good headache where he can play effectively [in several positions].
That's what we looked at at the back end of last season when he played up top and got three goals in the last five games, and played in pre-season and got something like three or four goals in five games.”
It is because of his contribution and versatility that Sessegnon has been given a start in all of the fixtures so far this season. While he did not score until his side faced Bolton Wanderers, he did not waste too much time finding the back of the net a
second time against Aston Villa last weekend.
Bruce continued:
“But you worry and think, 'Can he score enough if we are going to play him up the top end of the pitch?' and that's what I have got in my mind at the moment.”
Bruce admitted he was slightly concerned at Sessegnon’s ability to score regularly; he was more than happy with his overall performances. The player will once again play a key role for the Black Cats when the travel to Old Trafford over the weekend to take
on Manchester United.
He added:
“But he's certainly a very good player wherever he plays.”
