Sunderland boss Steve Bruce shocked by London riots, admits http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Niko-Kranjcar-c27926 interest and confirms John O’Shea injury
Steve Bruce, the Sunderland manager, revealed he was attempting to bring Tottenham Hotspur striker Niko Kranjcar on a loan move to the Stadium of Light. The 26-year-old http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Croatia-c2879 international has not managed to make an impression on Tottenham Hotspur manager
Harry Redknapp, only making two Premier League starts last season.
Kranjcar is aware that he will not get a chance to play regular first team football at White Hart Lane, which is why he is considering making a move away. So far the Black Cats are the only Premier League side to show interest in acquiring the services of
the Croatian striker. If Bruce manages to bring the forward to Sunderland, Kranjcar will be the 11th arrival to the club this summer.
Bruce said while speaking to reporters:
“Bringing someone in on loan remains an option and Kranjcar is a quality player who we are very much aware of.”
Kranjcar signed with Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2009 from Portsmouth for an estimated fee of £2.5 million on a long-term four year deal. He was unable to cement his place in the first team and since his arrival at White Hart Lane, has only made 42
appearances in the English Premier League and has scored 12 goals.
With the Premier League having announced the postponement of the Tottenham Hotspur vs. Everton clash at White Hart Lane due to the unrest in London, Steve Bruce said he hoped the rioting didn’t affect the English Premier League season. The Black Cats manager
felt very strongly about the disturbances that have engulfed London since last Saturday.
Bruce said:
“I think I stand for the whole of the country. We are outraged and shocked by what we have seen.”
What started off as a protest soon turned into rioting and looting, spreading to Manchester, Birmingham and other parts of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c39043 fixture, announcing that they expected the other
fixtures to continue on as expected. Bruce admitted he was shocked by the events in London and hoped the issue would be resolved soon.
He continued:
“I am saddened and shocked that our country could come to something like that.”
Sunderland travel to Anfield to take on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 in their opening fixture of the Premier League and Bruce revealed he would be without John O’Shea. The former Manchester United midfielder arrived at the Stadium of Light along with teammate Wes Brown, but
picked up a hamstring injury during pre-season and will not be available against Liverpool.
Steve Bruce, who had various injury problems last season, insisted he did not plan on rushing the 30-year-old http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Republic-of-Ireland-c2987 international. While he expected the player to participate in the training with the squad, he confirmed the player would not
be fully fit by Saturday. The opening game against Liverpool is an important one for Sunderland, who are aiming for a top six finish this season.
Bruce revealed:
“I would think he is doubtful and with the players we have got at the moment and with what happened last year, we are not going to rush anybody back.
He's progressing well, he is up and looking to join in training either today or tomorrow, but I think the weekend will be too quick for him.”
