Sunderland boss Steve Bruce urges striker Asamoah Gyan to focus
Sunderland manager Steve Bruce revealed he felt Asamoah Gyan was not as much to blame for wanting to move from the English Premier League as were the people who had filled his heads with such ideas. During the summer transfer window the 25-year-old Ghanaian
striker was linked to a host of sides, with a move to Turkish outfit Galatasaray rumoured to be confirmed close to the deadline day of the transfer window.
However, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ghana-c2905 has remained at the Stadium of Light and Bruce insisted he had not received any offers for Gyan. He urged the striker to focus on his current side and work towards increasing his goal tally for the Black Cats. After joining the club from
Ligue 1 side Rennes in 2010, Gyan went on to make 34 appearances in the Premier League and scored 10 goals.
The Sunderland boss felt the speculation linking Gyan with a move away from Sunderland had begun as early as March, when the player had featured for his national team against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with Gyan undoubtedly the best player for
his team, after which he was the subject of interest from many top clubs. Bruce feels this was the reason why the striker had been somewhat unsettled since then.
He said while speaking to reporters:
“Since that game at Wembley, all the parasites, as I call them, hover around. People are in his ear constantly trying to engineer a deal for him.”
While Bruce revealed he had tried his best to quash the rumours, the media had not helped and the rumours had only increased as the summer transfer window approached. Gyan was linked with the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Valencia, when in reality
these sides had not shown any interest in acquiring the Ghanaian striker, let alone made a bid for him.
Bruce continued:
“He was going from Real Madrid to Bayern Munich to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 to Atletico Madrid.”
The Black Cats boss said he had been in talks with Gyan and had urged the player to focus on the task at hand, which was to focus on scoring goals for Sunderland. Bruce’s side finished tenth on the Premier League table last season and are aiming for a top
six finish in this campaign. The Sunderland boss was aware of the difference Gyan could make and hoped he would do well for the club.
Bruce said:
“We have had a discussion with him and he needs now to focus and get himself back on track again and be the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Asamoah-Gyan-c6791 we know he is capable of.
These things affect these players, and it has affected http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/ASA-c38494. I had a conversation with him two days ago to say, 'Look, the window as now closed, Asa. Right, we need to see you back playing again and back the way you know you can play'.”
