Sunderland chairman promises Steve Bruce new signings for the new season
Niall Quinn, the Sunderland chairman, revealed he was going to help the Black Cats manager Steve Bruce build a strong squad ahead of the upcoming English Premier League season.
So far Sunderland have lost out on home-grown talent, with the transfer of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809.
The 21-year-old http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 under-21 international moved to Anfield for a highly inflated transfer fee of £16 million, leaving his home-town club for the first time since he started playing professional football.
The English Premier League fixture list for the 2011-2012 season was released and Sunderland will be travelling to Anfield to take on the Reds in their first fixture of the season on 13th August.
As fate would have it, Henderson will make his debut against his former side in the first fixture of the new season.
Sunderland will then welcome Newcastle United to the Stadium of Light, before travelling to newly promoted Swansea City.
Having lost one of their developing young players, Sunderland have not yet begun the rebuilding and refurbishing process.
The Black Cats chairman urged Steve Bruce to be patient and promised him additions to his squad for the upcoming season.
Quinn said in an interview:
“The journey begins again and it promises to be an interesting one.
We have got a tough start to the season, but you have to play everyone twice during the course of the season, so it all evens itself out.”
He revealed he was certain Sunderland would manage the tough opening fixtures with additions to the squad.
Quinn continued:
“We are looking to build an exciting squad to meet the challenges to come, and I'm confident we will be able to do that.
As a club, we are exploring a number of potential signings and have been speaking to a number of players and agents.
There's a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Real-c30728 sense of excitement now and I hope the fans will get behind us and back us through the turnstiles.”
So far Sunderland have signed strikers http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 N’Gog.
Sunderland are also thought to be in talks over Keiren Westwood and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sebastian-Larsson-c32733 over a possible move to the Stadium of Light.
Westwood, the 26-year-old goalkeeper, would definitely be the favourite signing of the summer, considering the number of problems Sunderland have been having with the stoppers.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Republic-of-Ireland-c2987 international has been with championship sides since moving from Manchester City in 2004.
Midfielder Sebastian Larsson’s talks with Sunderland are in the advanced stages and the 26-year-old midfielder is expected to join the Black Cats, after his current side Birmingham City were relegated to Championship.
The above mentioned players could make a big difference for Sunderland in the upcoming season, especially with the competition intensifying with every passing season.
