Sunderland confirm full-back http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Phil-Bardsley-c29900’s four match ban after FA charge
Phil Bardsley, the 26-year-old Sunderland full-back, was charged with violent conduct during the clash against Chelsea by the FA. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Scotland-c756 international reportedly stamped on the Blues’ winger Juan Mata towards half time in the fixture the Black Cats
lost 2-1 at the Stadium of Light.
While Bardsley was not penalized for the offence during the game, the FA decided to take action against Bardsley after watching video evidence after the game. The FA released a statement regarding the incident, which could cost the defender a three match
suspension.
A statement released by the FA said:
“The FA has today charged Sunderland defender Phil Bardsley with violent conduct following an incident in his side's home game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786.
Bardsley has until 6pm on Wednesday 14 September to respond to the charge.”
The club have not decided to contest the FA charge as a result of which Bardsley will now be serving a four match ban, starting over the weekend against Stoke City. He will go on to further miss the matches against Norwich City, West Bromwich Albion and
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 in the English Premier League. Sunderland also released a statement confirming the suspension.
It read:
“Sunderland has confirmed it will not be appealing the Football Association's charge against Phil Bardsley following the Barclays Premier League fixture with Chelsea on Saturday September 10.
The FA yesterday advised that the defender would be cited retrospectively following an incident involving Chelsea's Juan Mata during the first half of the fixture at the Stadium of Light.”
Bardsley has not had the best discipline records since the beginning of the season, having been sent off during the Newcastle United match after two yellow cards. His absence will leave manager Steve Bruce without another key player as he looks to lead Sunderland
out of an early season slump. The Black Cats have not managed a single win since the beginning of this season and are currently at the bottom of the league with two points.
It continued:
“The Scotland international will face a four-match suspension which comes into effect from Sunday's game against Stoke City at the Stadium of Light.”
Bardsley joined Sunderland in the January transfer window of 2008 for a potential fee of £2 million on a three-and-a-half-year contract. He has made a total of 112 appearances for the Black Cats since then and has managed to score 4 goals. The full-back,
currently operating as a left-back, will be missed by Bruce in the upcoming games but he will be comforted knowing that John O’Shea has returned from injury.
