Sunderland defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/George-McCartney-c14574 returns to West Ham United
George McCartney, the 30-year-old former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Northern-Ireland-c2972 international, has decided to return to West Ham United on a one year loan deal. The Sunderland player is aware his services will not be appreciated at the Stadium of Light in the upcoming season,
which is why he is returning to his former side despite the fact that they are no longer in the top flight.
West Ham finished at the bottom of the Premier League table last season and as a result were relegated. The Hammers, now managed by Sam Allardyce, are attempting to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season so they are able to earn a promotion by the
end of the season. So far Allardyce has brought in six signings, including the on loan McCartney.
McCartney said while speaking to reporters:
“It's brilliant to be coming back. For me personally it will be great to be playing again for a club like West Ham. It is a big opportunity for me and I can't wait to get started again.
I am looking forward to being part of the manager's squad and the club's push for promotion.”
McCartney returned to the Stadium of Light from West Ham in the summer of 2008 on a long-term five year deal for an estimated fee of £6.5 million. He managed to secure a place in the starting line-up under manager Roy Keane, but was replaced under Steve
Bruce. The new Sunderland boss was not impressed with the injury plagued defender.
He preferred http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Anton-Ferdinand-c6260 to the Northern Ireland defender, who was facing regular injury problems. Bruce made it clear he had no intention of including McCartney in the squad when the injured player wasn’t given a squad number at the beginning of last
season. McCartney had picked up an injury during pre-season, while the club was on a tour to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984.
It was then decided that the player would be loaned out to a Championship side so he could regain his match fitness. McCartney joined Leeds United on a one month loan, which was extended until the end of the 2010-2011 season. The Championship side were rumoured
to be considering signing McCartney on a permanent basis but decided against it due to the player’s attitude, which received criticism from the club chairman.
Since 2008, McCartney has made 41 appearances for Sunderland in the Premier League. However, by last season it was apparent he would not get a chance to play regular football at the Stadium of Light under Steve Bruce, which is why he is being sent to West
Ham United for yet another loan spell. The player could go on to sign permanently with the Hammers if he manages to make an impression this season.
