Sunderland defender John O’Shea looking for a win over West Bromwich Albion after loss to Norwich City
John O’Shea, the 30-year-old Sunderland defender, urged his side to recover from the defeat to newly promoted side Norwich City in their last English Premier League fixture on Monday. The Black Cats suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat to Norwich City, which came
just a week after their triumphant 4-0 win over Stoke City.
The fact that Sunderland failed to build up on their first win of the new season came as a huge disappointment to the supporters. O’Shea admitted the Black Cats had not been in the best of forms on Monday night but was certain they would soon return to winning
ways.
O’Shea said while speaking to reporters:
“I wouldn't say it is back to square one after losing, but it is disappointing and we are not trying to hide the fact.
We came to Norwich very confident of getting the three points but we didn't perform well enough to get those.”
The former Manchester United defender did not think the loss to Norwich City had affected their confidence, even though the result had been a disappointment. He admitted both the defence and attack needed to improve if they expected better results in the
future.
He revealed:
“We are not creating too many clear cut chances, we are not testing out back fours either, we know we need to improve on it but the players and everyone behind the scenes are working hard to make it happen.”
He admitted the squad had shown better quality against Stoke City than they had against Norwich City, with the former Championship side having outplayed them. O’Shea felt consistency was the key to success for the Black Cats this season, something the side
clearly lacked.
O’Shea continued:
“The consistency is what we need to find. Some of the performances have been good and others have been so bad.
We have to find that level that we know the players are capable of.”
With Sunderland set to face West Bromwich Albion this weekend, O’Shea urged his side to get a decent result on Saturday at the Stadium of Light to put the defeat to Norwich City behind them. The home advantage will definitely give Steve Bruce’s side the
push they need to bounce back and secure another win.
