Sunderland defender John O’Shea urges team to win at Stadium of Light to save Steve Bruce
Former Manchester United defender John O’Shea revealed he was aware that his current side Sunderland had to start winning, especially their home fixture, if they were to save manager Steve Bruce from being sacked. After a poor start to the season, the Black
Cats lost their recent fixture 2-1 to Wigan Athletic, which leaves them in the bottom half of the Premier League table.
The poor form this season has led to a section of supporters, which seem to be growing with every game, calling for the removal of Bruce. It is becoming increasingly difficult for owner and chairman Ellis Short to ignore the fans, especially after having
witnessed the response to the game first hand. The American businessman was in the stands as his side suffered an embarrassing defeat to bottom place Wigan.
O’Shea said while speaking to reporters:
“You see the attendances we are getting, the fans coming to support us and especially at home, we haven't had as many wins as we would have liked.
That's something we have got to change very quickly because if you want to stay in the Premier League, your home form is supposed to be key.”
O’Shea, who was amongst the ten or so signings in the summer transfer window for Sunderland, was certain a few wins could save Bruce’s position at the club. Bruce was given quite a free hand at the beginning of the season, but it seems it has backfired and
all the new signings have failed to give the club a new life-line.
The former Manchester United player was certain wins over Wolverhampton Wanderers and Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 could change their luck. He urged his team to step up and return to winning ways, especially at the Stadium of Light to win back the support of the fans.
He revealed:
“Especially because of this result, that will be the case.
But it's a long old season and if we keep our preparation right like we have been doing and creating as many chances as we have been doing in games, surely we have got to take more chances than we have done.”
