Sunderland defender John O’Shea urges teammates to win at the Stadium of Light against Stoke City
Former Manchester United defender John O’Shea revealed he wanted to end Sunderland’s poor form at the Stadium of Light. The 30-year-old Black Cats defender said he was aiming for a win on his home debut for the club against Stoke City over the weekend.
The beginning of the new campaign had not changed Sunderland’s luck at home, with the Black Cat’s losing both their fixtures at the Stadium of Light. Their first loss was to Newcastle United and last weekend they lost 2-1 to English Premier League giants
Chelsea.
After finishing tenth on the Premier League table last season, Sunderland were aiming for a top six finish this season. However, that will be difficult to manage if they are unable to improve their form, especially at home, which seems to be deteriorating.
O’Shea has just returned to the squad after recovering from a calf strain, having missed out on the home defeat to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 last week. He revealed he was hoping Sunderland’s luck at home changed, which had been suffering since the beginning of the year.
O’Shea said in an interview:
“It's been the case in 2011 so far that the home form hasn't been that great.
That will be the key to how successful we are this season, making sure our home form is rock solid.”
He continued:
“I never had an easy game when I came up against Sunderland in the past. It was always a very difficult game as a United player and an intimidating ground to play at.”
O’Shea admitted that while he was at Manchester United he had not considered an away game to Sunderland as easy. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Republic-of-Ireland-c2987 international urged the Black Cat’s to take advantage of the fact that the Stadium of Light was an intimidating ground.
He urged his teammates to get a decent result in their upcoming clash against Stoke City this Sunday. The supporters are known to be unhappy with the latest string of results, but O’Shea was confident they were on the road to improvement.
The defender said:
“As a group, we have to make the Stadium of Light a fortress again for us. The key to it is scoring goals.
The Stadium of Light will be rocking this weekend and hopefully we get the goals we need and we can send everyone home happy.”
