Sunderland defender Kieran Richardson offers apology to fans after loss to Norwich City
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kieran-Richardson-c20946, the Sunderland defender, revealed he was extremely disappointed at the defeat to Norwich City in the English Premier League on Monday night. The 26-year-old English defender apologized to the fans for the Black Cat’s poor performance and
assured the fans they would improve in the upcoming matches.
Sunderland conceded two goals against the newly promoted Championship side, with the Black Cats scoring a late consolation goal in the 86th match. The 2-1 loss leaves Sunderland manager Steve Bruce with a bitter taste in his mouth as he prepares
for the West Bromwich Albion trip to the Stadium of Light on Saturday.
While Richardson revealed he was pleased with his side’s performance in the match, especially in the second half, he admitted the result was extremely disappointing. He admitted the 4-0 victory over Stoke City just a week before had been uplifting, but the
result against Norwich City had been damaging to the team’s confidence.
Richardson on the club’s official website:
“I was pleased to score but the result overall is very disappointing.
We were on a high after the Stoke game, but we didn't play well tonight. We had possession in the first half, but it wasn't effective.”
Richardson revealed that his side may not have taken Norwich City too seriously, which could have caused them to concede the goals early on. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international offered his apologies to the fans, whom he felt the team had let down with their performance.
He revealed:
“It's a shame because we have let the fans down and I am sorry for that.
I thought we were good enough to get back into the game, but it wasn't to be.”
Youngster Connor Wickham came close to scoring for Sunderland, but he was unable to make an impact after coming on as a substitute. Richardson felt his side had shown a considerable improvement in the second half but it had not been enough to guarantee them
a result.
Richardson continued:
“In the second half, we didn't put our foot on the ball at all. We didn't get in possession, whereas at least we had some of the ball in the first half.”
