Sunderland defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Turner-c25393 blames poor defence for poor results, looks forward to Bolton Wanderers clash
Sunderland defender Michael Turner admitted his side had not had the best of the starts to the Premier League season and had to step up their game if they wished to climb out of the bottom half of the table. The Black Cats were unable to return to winning
ways in their last clash against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429, losing 2-1 to the Gunners over the weekend.
While Arsenal took the lead early on in the first minute, with striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sebastian-Larsson-c32733 scored an equalizer via a magnificent free kick. However, the Black Cats
were unable to maintain the score line or tilt in their favour, as they ended up losing due to another goal by Van Persie.
Turner said in an interview:
“I'm sure we can and then we'll start getting results. Before we went out yesterday, we said that we needed to have a good start and keep them quiet.”
The 27-year-old has been part of the defence that has been unable to keep a clean sheet, which has been the main reasons why Sunderland have been in poor form this season. Turner admitted the Black Cats had indeed been lacking in the defence department,
which had been fairly obvious in their results since the new season kicked off.
He admitted:
“It's bitterly disappointing to concede so early in the game - that can't keep happening. We need to put that right straight away, starting with Bolton.”
With Sunderland scheduled to take on Bolton Wanderers in their next Premier League match, Turner urged his side to toughen up and focus on the upcoming fixtures. The English defender was hopeful positive performances and results would bring the team up.
The Black Cats will start against Bolton Wanderers, when they travel to the Reebok Stadium on Saturday.
Turner revealed:
“We feel like we could have won the game, certainly after the first half when we weathered the early storm. We played some good stuff and created the best three chances of the game.
We were disappointed we didn't come in leading, although we'd have probably taken a draw going in after the first 20 minutes.”
