Sunderland defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Turner-c25393 looking forward to the new season with increased competition
Michael Turner, the 27-year-old English defender, revealed that Sunderland manager Steve Bruce’s shopping spree in the summer transfer window had increased competition at the club. Bruce has signed 11 players so far, with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/James-McClean-c17703 his latest signing.
Sunderland managed a tenth place finish on the Premier League table last season and is now aiming for a sixth place finish this season. It is his ambitions for the upcoming season which have encouraged Bruce to bring in so many new signings.
The Black Cats manager is hoping the new arrivals provide the quality and experience that was missing from the squad last season. The likes of former Manchester United players John O’Shea and Wes Brown are amongst the many players who have arrived at the
Stadium of Light this summer.
Turner revealed the team was looking forward to the Premier League season, after having done well in pre-season. He felt the increased competition at the club would only help the players perform better in the upcoming season.
Turner said while speaking to reporters:
“There's huge competition throughout the whole team, which is a good thing. It helps individuals to perform better in order to keep their place in the team.
Everyone's pleased pre-season's finished now - it dragged on a bit because we just want to get cracking with the Premier League.”
Turner had picked up an injury during pre-season, but he revealed he had now fully recovered and was looking forward to playing his role in the Premier League. Turner felt the pre-season training and matches had helped return them to match fitness and prepare
them for the hectic season ahead.
He continued:
“I've had a couple of niggles in pre-season which has been disappointing, but I've featured in most training sessions and only missed a couple of games.”
Steve Bruce’s men will travel to Anfield to take on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 in their opening fixture of the new English Premier League season this weekend. Turner admitted the Reds at their home ground was a tough fixture, but they were hoping for the best.
Turner said:
“It's a tough start but Anfield is a tricky place to go at any point in the season.
We know all about Liverpool and we know it'll be a tough game.”
