Sunderland defender Titus Bramble hoping for a start against Chelsea
Sunderland defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Anton-Ferdinand-c6260. The 26-year-old English defender left the Black Cats in the summer transfer window
to join newly promoted side Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314 and Bramble was confident he now had a better chance at regular first team football.
Bramble said while speaking to reporters:
“We all wish Anton all the best. He's been a real character in the dressing room. Him leaving will give someone else a chance and hopefully that's me.”
Bramble joined Sunderland in the summer of 2010 from Wigan Athletic on a three year contract for an estimated £1 million. However, his career with Sunderland was plagued with injury because of which he has only 24 appearances for the Black Cats since his
arrival. Having returned to full fitness, Bramble revealed he was hoping to make more of an impact this season.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 under-21 international revealed it had been very frustrating not being able to play over the past season. However, he was hoping his luck would change in the current season, especially with the departure of Ferdinand. Bramble felt he would
be able to successfully partner former Manchester United defender Wes Brown, replacing Ferdinand in the centre of defence.
Bramble said:
“It's always frustrating to not be playing - no-one wants to train hard all week and then not play at the weekend and I'm no different.”
While the departure of Ferdinand has given Bramble hope of regular football, he is aware of the competition in the current squad. Sunderland manager Steve Bruce was probably the most active English Premier League manager in the summer transfer window and
brought in many players, which included various defenders. This means there is intense competition in the squad for a place in the starting line-up.
With Sunderland preparing for English Premier League giants’ http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s visit to the Stadium of Light over the weekend, Bramble knows he will have to impress the Black Cat’s manager for a place in the team against the Blues. Especially with John O’Shea having
been declared fit, Bruce is expected to pick the two former Manchester United defenders to form his central defence.
He continued:
“I'll be training hard and hopefully get the nod for the Chelsea game.
But we've got great competition for places at the back and I've always said that by bringing in players like Wes Brown and John O'Shea is a great thing for this club.”
Despite the possibility of being left out in favour of John O’Shea, Bramble revealed he welcomed the competition at the club. The Englishman admitted maintaining a spot in the team was difficult but said it encouraged the players to be at their best at all
times.
