Sunderland midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Craig-Gardner-c9475 dismisses criticism for poor start
Craig Gardner, the 24-year-old Sunderland midfielder, felt it was ridiculous to say the club were not going to have a successful season because of the poor start. Sunderland have not had too good a start to the new campaign, losing their two home games and
drawing their remaining two away games. They currently have two points and are at the bottom of the English Premier League table.
However, Gardner did not feel it was something to be concerned about and that the Black Cats would improve as the season progressed. He denied reports that the club were struggling because they had not been able to score goals and had lost at the Stadium
of Lights. According to the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 under-21 international, it was too early to comment on the rest of the season.
Gardner said while speaking to reporters:
“We haven't played that badly, we are not struggling. We are four games into the season, we have got two points and we have played Newcastle and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 at home.”
He continued:
“I don't understand why people are saying we are struggling because at the end of the day, we are not. We are playing well, we are just lacking a couple of goals, which will come.”
The former Birmingham City midfielder felt his side had done a decent http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 in the opening fixtures of the new campaign. He felt the fact that they had not been in good goal-scoring form and the fact that they had not as yet registered a win at home had been
blown way out of proportion. He was certain his side would bounce back and return to scoring goals once again.
Gardner said:
“We are a top-quality team and there are four games gone. I can't believe it. The players we have brought in - look at them.
There's experience, there's youth, there's pace, there's creativity. There's no way we are going to struggle at the bottom all season.”
With more summer signings than probably any other side in the English Premier League, Gardner felt Steve Bruce had made some quality signings in the summer transfer window. With the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicklas-Bendtner-c27726
among others, Gardner felt the new Sunderland squad possessed the necessary quality to challenge for a place in the top half of the table.
