Sunderland owner Ellis Short sacks manager Steve Bruce, wishes him best of luck for the future
Sunderland have sacked manager Steve Bruce, the club owner and chairman Ellis Short announced the news today. The American revealed the reason was the fact that the Black Cat’s performance this season had not been good enough and it was a time for change.
While Bruce had claimed he had no intention of parting ways with the club just a few days ago, it was Short who made the final decision. Sunderland are currently just two spots above the relegation zone have only won two of their 15 English Premier League
fixtures at home.
Short said in a statement on the club’s official website:
“This has been a difficult time for everyone at Sunderland and is not a situation that any of us envisaged or expected to be in.”
While Short appreciated all that Bruce had done for the club, he did not think it had been enough this season which is why he had decided to let the English manager go. Sunderland have had a very poor start to the season, despite bringing in over 10 players
in the summer transfer window.
He revealed:
“It is my http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 as chairman to act in the best interests of our football club at all times and I can assure everyone that this is not a decision I have taken lightly.
Sadly results this season have simply not been good enough and I feel the time is right to make a change.”
Short thanked Steve Bruce for all his contribution to the club over the two and half years he had been in charge, which he termed to be significant. The American owner went on to add that everyone at the club wished the best for the former Black Cats boss.
Short added:
“Steve has acted with honesty and integrity throughout, which is testament to the character and commitment he has shown during his time at Sunderland.”
Short concluded by thanking all the supporters for their patience throughout the tough period and hinted at a change for the better. It is not yet certain who will be taking charge after the departure of Steve Bruce.
