Sunderland have signed Manchester City left-back Wayne Bridge on a loan move until the end of the season on the deadline day of the winter transfer window.
The 31-year-old left back was linked with a host of sides after falling out of favour with Manchester City boss http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323. He was initially believed to be headed to Championship side Reading in the January transfer window but the Black Cats managed
to hijack the deal.
Having successfully gone through the medical at Sunderland, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Bridge-c36733 is now available for the Black Cats to appear in the Premier League clash against Norwich City on Wednesday night. Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill revealed he was extremely pleased
to have Bridge at the Stadium of Light.
O’Neill said while speaking to the club’s official website:
“I'm hoping that with Wayne's undoubted experience and ability he can be a big help to the team until the end of the season.
I'm very pleased to have him here and with the number of injuries we've sustained recently I'm sure he'll be a great help to us.”
The Northern Irish manager was hopeful the arrival of an experienced player like Bridge would be helpful to the struggling side. He revealed they could use a defender like the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international, who had been various clubs over the course of his career.
Bridge made just a single appearance for the Citizens this season and that too in the Carling Cup and it has been a year since he’s appeared for City in the Premier League. The defender admitted he was delighted with the move, which promised him regular
football as compared to that at Manchester City.
Bridge said in an interview:
“I'm delighted to make the move. I have met the manager and the lads and everyone seems great.
I'm just excited to start playing football and playing a few games. The club is on the up - the manager has come in and done very well.
Just coming in and speaking to him, everything has been positive. I have trained with the lads and they are a great bunch who are feeling really positive.”
