Sunderland skipper Lee Cattermole urges Black Cats to bounce back as they prepare for Arsenal clash
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lee-Cattermole-c21868, the 23-year-old Sunderland skipper, urged his side to remain calm after a less than perfect start to the new Premier League season. The defensive midfielder will lead his side to the Emirates Stadium today, Sunday, to take on Arsenal.
The Black Cats are currently in the bottom half of the Premier League table, at 16th place and will be looking to secure win in their upcoming fixtures. While they managed to avoid another loss in their fixture before the international break,
they barely managed a 2-2 draw against West Bromwich Albion.
The poor start and preceding poor performances, which have seen them secure just one win in seven fixtures, have led to supporters call for the removal of manager Steve Bruce. The Black Cats manager apparently still retains the support of the management
and the squad, because of which his departure seems unlikely.
Cattermole feels the fans have been unrealistic and too demanding and urged them to be patient. The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 under-21 international revealed he was certain back-to-back wins would see his side return to the top half of the table and ease the pressure
on the manager and the team.
Cattermole said in an interview:
“Two wins in the Premier League - I know it's hard to do that, but if you get two back-to-back wins, it can soon change.”
With just the start of the season, Cattermole felt his side had the margin for error and as long as they were on the road to improvement, it was no cause for concern. The midfielder admitted his side had to improve, especially defensively since they had
made a bad habit of conceding soft goals.
He revealed:
“At the minute, we just need to start keeping more clean sheets, and that starts from the top as a team.”
With Sunderland having brought in a host of players in the summer transfer window, probably more than other Premier League side, Cattermole believed it would take time for the new additions to adjust to the club, after which their contributions would start
to deliver results.
He admitted:
“We have brought nine, 10 new players here and it's not going to happen overnight, but I think you can see the base of the team is good and we will hopefully progress from there.”
Sunderland are set to take on the Gunners today, after which they will face Bolton Wanderers next week. Both their upcoming fixtures are easy considering the fact that both the sides are also not in the best of forms, which will make it easier for the Black
Cats to bounce back.
Cattermole continued:
“We have got two big games now, away to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and away to Bolton, who are both struggling as well, so hopefully we can go there and counter that and come away with some points and turn our season around.”
