The Ghana Football Association has urged Sunderland striker currently on loan to Al Ain Asamoah Gyan to reconsider his decision of taking a break from international football.
Gyan, the 26-year-old striker, is currently on loan to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 side Al Ain after moving from Sunderland after he had a falling out with former manager Steve Bruce. The player made an announcement that he wanted to take a break from international football.
His reason? Gyan claimed he was extremely unhappy with the verbal abuse that had come his way during the African Cup of Nations in January and had decided to take a break from the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ghana-c2905 team. The Ghana Football Association are desperately trying to get the player back.
They released a statement on the official website regarding the incident, it read:
“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has received a letter from striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Black-Stars-c38646.
Mr Gyan is frustrated over the verbal abuse he has received since playing for the country at the 2012 African Nations Cup.
The GFA is in talks with Mr Gyan to urge him to reconsider his decision.”
The African Cup of Nations crown was claimed by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Zambia-c3043, who defeated the Ivory Coast in the tense final. Ghana on the other hand failed to make it past the semi-finals and among Gyan’s other contributions was a missed penalty in the earlier half of the competition.
The missed penalty reminds one of Gyan’s missed penalty in the quarter final of the 2010 World Cup, when it was down to penalties between Ghana and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Uruguay-c3035. It was Uruguay who emerged as eventual winners of the shoot-out, with the memory of the missed penalty to haunt Gyan forever.
Gyan made his debut for Ghana in 2003 when he was only 17 years old, scoring against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Somalia-c3010 on the 19th of November. Among his other achievement for his country is the fastest goal of the 2006 World Cup, with Gyan finding the back of the net after just 68 seconds. The Sunderland striker’s international career comes to a premature end, with just 59 appearances and 28 goals.
