It has been reported that Gyan is scheduled to undergo a medical at Al-Ain after which he will be confirmed as a permanent player at the club. The Ghanaian striker does not seem to want to return to Sunderland, even though there has been a change in management.
Gyan left the Stadium of Light on almost a season long loan move after disagreements with then manager Steve Bruce. While Steve Bruce was sacked mid-season and replaced with Martin O’Neill, Gyan has showed no desire to return to the English Premier League
side.
The striker signed for Sunderland on a four year deal from Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais for an undisclosed fee. He got off to a flying start, scoring on his debut for the Black Cats against Wigan Athletic in September after coming on as a substitute.
Gyan also scored in the League Cup, but his side ended up losing out to West Ham United. He then went on to score against Stoke City in the Premier League in his first start for Sunderland. His goals came at crucial moments for the club and an equalizer
against Tottenham Hotspur saw his side secure seventh place on the table.
He has scored against the likes of Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786. He would have scored more than he did had he not picked up the injury in April. The unfortunate injury ruled him out for the large part
of the latter half of the 2010-2011 season.
He made a total of 37 appearances for Sunderland and scored 11 goals, before moving to Al-Ain. He has a much better goal tally with the UAE side, scoring 25 goals in 23 appearances in all competitions. The Al-Ain chief Carlo Nohra executive hinted that the
striker was close to making his move permanent.
He said in an interview:
“Regarding Gyan, there's nothing yet, but we are positive about him staying with us for a few more years. Things will become clear soon.”
