of Light was lack of first team football.
After falling out of favour with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, Bendtner decided to part ways with the London side. With the option of a permanent move not available to him, the Danish striker decided to join the Black Cats on a season long loan move.
Bendtner said in an interview:
“As I have said before, I will not return to Arsenal.”
Bendtner was a graduate of the Arsenal youth academy, making his appearance for the senior side in the 2005-2006 season. He was soon loaned out to Birmingham City the next season, with hopes of first team football upon his return.
The youngster made 42 appearances for Birmingham City in the League and went on to score 11 goals. However, upon his return to Arsenal, he once again found himself on the bench and to this day has made 99 appearances in the Premier League with 22 goals for
the Gunners.
He revealed:
“I never really got the chance and then I was unfortunate with injuries. But now I will hopefully have a good season at Sunderland and with a fantastic European Championship ahead, it looks positive.”
While Bendtner has had a nice start at his new club, scoring twice in seven Premier League appearances, he does not intend to remain with the Black Cats in the long run. He admitted he wanted to play UEFA Champions League football.
Sunderland manager Steve Bruce did aim for a top six finish this season, but his side have not been doing too well currently. It seems Bendtner is currently working hard to impress top clubs, who might consider signing him on a more permanent basis at the
end of the season in the summer transfer window.
Bendtner continued:
“I want to play in the Champions League.”
