Stephane Sessegnon, the Sunderland striker, praised the new Black Cats manager Martin O’Neill for helping the club survive the tough Christmas period.
His first four games in charge have seen him secure two wins, a draw and a loss, which is a huge improvement from how the Black Cats were doing under former manager Steve Bruce. The former Aston Villa boss replaced the Englishman in mid-season and has done
unexpectedly well with the squad.
Under him, Sessegnon has done considerably well, scoring in the 3-2 win over newly promoted Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314 at Loftus Road. The Beninese forward revealed the manager had not made too many changes and have focused more on developing team spirit.
Sessegnon said while speaking to reporters:
“It's been good so far. He's only had a few matches but since getting a victory in his first game against Blackburn, there's been more confidence about us.”
The 27-year-old revealed there had been confidence since O’Neill’s arrival and the team looked more upbeat than before. He admitted he knew of the manager when he was in France and while the Northern Irish boss was in charge of Aston Villa.
He denied reports that there had been massive changes in training and the way things were run at the club. Instead, he admitted the manager had worked towards building and maintaining a good spirit amongst the players in the team.
He continued:
“I knew of him while I was in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899. I'd heard about what he was doing at Villa. I don't think there's been massive change in things in training.
But he's keen to develop a good spirit among the players and it's all been positive. It's football what happened to Steve Bruce.”
The striker has scored 3 goals in 19 matches and has made four assists and was keen on improving his form so that he could help his side secure future wins. Sunderland face league leaders Manchester City in the upcoming Premier League clash over the weekend.
“This season, we've given our maximum, but no one takes pleasure in losing. The most important thing is to do the best thing for the club and results hadn't been good.”
