Sunderland vs. Chelsea - Fantasy Premier League Preview: Gameweek 4
Chelsea, under Andrea Villas Boas, are looking more and more like the side that can actually go on and win trophies instead of just competing for them. With some welcome activity in the transfer window which brought in the likes of Juan Mata from Valencia
and Romelu Lukaku, the side finally have the injection of fresh blood and creativity they seemed to have found missing.
Sunderland, on the other hand, has also been busy in the transfer window, bringing in more experience than flair, but welcome additions none the less.
Sunderland
With regular goal keeper, Craig Gordon, out through injury, Simon Mignolet has had to deputise in goal and he has done a fairly tidy job as well. However, even despite the fact that Fernando Torres is misfiring, the Chelsea squad seem to have too much quality
to not score a goal this weekend.
Defenders
Wes Brown (4.5-milllion) and John O’Shea (5-million) both add experience to the back line, however, once again, Chelsea seem to be on the up and it is best to stay away from opposing defenders, for the time being at least.
Also under no circumstances, have Titus Bramble in your squad. You have been warned.
Midfielders
Dead ball specialist, Sebastian Larsson (6.5-million), is one of those relatively unknown players who can bag managers a fair amount of points. Seeing how Sunderland’s few opportunities to score will come from dead ball situations, keeping Larsson may not
be such a bad idea.
Strikers
After going through the list of strikers that Sunderland have available, we were left unimpressed and felt they would be found wanting against the likes of John Terry and crew. For strikers on this particular weekend, we recommend managers look elsewhere.
Chelsea
With Petr Cech (6-million) more than just a little likely to return between the two posts of Chelsea’s goal, managers should be jumping at the chance to sign him.
However, caution is urged and we recommend that managers wait a gameweek or two for the keeper to settle back in before they sign one of the most consistent point earners in the league.
Defenders
We at Bettor.com always lay an emphasis on picking wing backs when it comes to defenders and if managers had heard our call, then those who picked Jose Bosingwa (5.9-million) will know exactly what we mean.
Though scoring goals is a bonus, players like Bosingwa and Ashley Cole (7.5-million) are the types of players who benefit from earning points both for defending, as well as attacking.
Either of the two wing backs will be a good choice.
Midfielders
Super Frank Lampard (12-million) has been one of the most picked players since the inception of the Fantasy Premier League. This year is no different. Managers who have him should keep him.
While on the other hand, managers looking to make a single transfer and are looking for a player from this match, should turn their attention towards Juan Mata (9.5-million). Mata looked lively and creative and gave Chelsea more flair. Not only that, he
also managed to get on the score sheet as well, despite coming on as a second-half substitute.
Strikers
Didier Drogba may be injured, but Chelsea has strength in depth. Many have been waiting for Fernando Torres (10.8-million) to finally get going, which he has not, much to everyone but the opposing side’s disappointment.
Though Mata could just change all that over the coming few gameweeks. Daniel Sturridge (6.5-million) may not have played yet, but this match is perfectly suited for his style of play.
Our Picks: Juan Mata impressed everyone and made a huge impact in such a short period of time and is our only pick for this match.
