Sunderland vs. Fulham: Premier League Match Report - Part 1
Fulham travelled to the Stadium of Light to take on Sunderland, in a highly contested match in the Premier League. Going into the game, Sunderland were being hailed as the favourites, simply because Fulham were yet to win an away game in the Premier League
and no one expected them to do so against the Black Cats.
The first real chance of the game fell in Fulham’s direction. The team executed a routine counter on the Black Cats. However, in the 9th minute, Eidur Gudjohnsen went on to over hit his through ball and instead of playing Bobby Zamora on, managed
to overplay the ball, and as a result, the move died down.
In the 31st minute of the game, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Philippe-Senderos-c29952 made a horrible mistake in defence as he lost the ball to Steve Malbranque. The Frenchman then raced towards the Fulham goal, but somehow managed to miss his one on one and clipped the ball just
wide of the mark.
In the 34th minute of the game, things started to get a lot livelier in the ground as Gael Kakuta opened the scoring in the game. Zamora headed a ball towards Gudjohnsen, who then went on to knock the ball back into the path of the striker. Zamora
then went on to lay a low pass to Kakuta, who managed to stay on his feet amidst a number of challenges and drilled the ball into the back of the net.
In the 38th minute, it seemed like Sunderland might just level the playing field. Henderson played a brilliant ball towards Muntari whose effort went just over the bar. However on closer replays, it became clear that the ball was destined for
the back had it not been for Baird deflecting the ball over and preventing Sunderland from levelling the score in the game.
In added time at the end of the first half, another chance fell Sunderland’s way. Henderson received the ball in a somewhat dangerous area and seemed to be on his way to belting the ball towards the goal. However, his miss-timed shot went wide of the mark
and kept Fulham in the lead.
As a result, the first half ended with Fulham leading at the break by one goal to nil. However, at the same time, Sunderland had started to assert their dominance in the dying stages of the opening forty five.
