Sunderland vs. Newcastle ends in a 1-1 draw
Sunderland were rescued at home by Asamoah Gyan’s late equalizer, after Kevin Nolan gave Newcastle the lead in the 2nd half.
Both teams looked charged up and Sunderland had a score to settle after the 5-1 thrashing at St James’ Park earlier, on in the season. Shola Ameobi, who was on target twice in that game, came close to scoring this time twice, but both times his shot was
a foot or so wide. Sunderland got their first good chance of the game as Darren Bent found himself teed up inside the box, but his shot was at an acute angle and well saved by the Newcastle keeper.
On one occasion, former Manchester United winger, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steed-Malbranque-c33957 let one fly from 15 yards, but Harper did well to palm it away.
The match had more bad tackles than good goal scoring opportunities; the two former Manchester United players, Alan Smith and Kieren Richardson, got into a tangle and Smith came off worse and had to be substituted.
As the 2nd half kicked off, there was some improvement in the dlevel of the game and both teams looked more determined to get a goal. Sunderland should have got the goal right after kick off in the 2nd period as Darren Bent was once
again on the end of a good ball sent in by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Phil-Bardsley-c29900, but, once again, it was over the bar and score remained 0-0.
Newcastle finally opened the score card 7 minutes after the restart. It was a corner sent in by Joe Barton which found the head of Ameobi- the ball looked to be heading towards goal, but Nolan had the final touch. The flamboyant back flick caught Sunderland's
defence off guard and team Newcastle rejoiced as the ball found the net.

star from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ghana-c2905 made an immediate impact and Sunderland started to look more dangerous. In the last minutes of the game, Sunderland’s efforts were rewarded when Gyan was in the right place on the right time and the ball deflected off his chest and into the
goal. The home team were ecstatic to have levelled the score and were happy to end the game with a draw, while Newcastle must have felt hard done by after being the better team for most of the game.
