Sunderland skipper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lee-Cattermole-c21868 has praised manager Martin O’Neill for turning things around after taking over as manager of the club.
After Steve Bruce was sacked in November, the management at Sunderland appointed former Aston Villa boss Martin O’Neill. The Irish manager had a tough task on his hands, helping the Black Cats recover from their extremely poor start to the season.
When Martin O’Neill took over, Sunderland had secured just 11 points from their opening 13 games and were in the relegation zone. However, they finished in the top ten when the season ended and the credit for it goes to none other than the new manager.
Cattermole said in an interview:
“Martin brought a massive lift to the place, and if you look at the results after he took over it showed what an impact he had. He gave all the lads the confidence boost they needed and the fans got right behind us. With that we went from strength to
strength."
According to the 24-year-old Englishman, Martin O’Neill had done a fantastic http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 at the club by restoring the player’s lost confidence. It was due to their renewed confidence that the Black Cats were able to climb out from the relegation zone and secure
a decent finish at the end of the season.
Under Steve Bruce, Sunderland made various signings, more than any other Premier League side and according to Cattermole it only intensified their struggle since it takes a while for new players to adjust to a team. He felt the team had improved when the
new arrivals had adjusted in with the rest of the team.
He revealed:
“Going into the season we signed a lot of good players but sometimes it takes time for them to gel as a team.
We started great at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 with a draw and played Newcastle off the park only to lose. Things like that can change your season and from then on we really struggled to get back on track.”
However, it was a case of too little too late and Steve Bruce had to pay for it with his job. Under Martin O’Neill though, the team has done unexpectedly well and will be a force to be reckoned with once the new season kicks off.
