  1. The trade will happen.

Who they deal depends on a few factors.  With the new cap at just over $50M, do not be surprised if the Canadiens newest acquisition is a part of the deal.  The question is what kind of deal they can work out.  The Habs have about $8M left under the cap and they have 5 restricted free agents left to sign.  Can they fit Sundin in at whatever number he will command, in addition to all 5 of the RFAs and any other roster moves necessary?  They also have the majority of their team under contract through next season.  They will have 8 UFA's the following season and 6 RFA's.

Sundin is still a point per game player, he is going to draw a significant salary.  Andrei Kostitsyn is the biggest issue in the RFA category, he could be in the $3M range.

  2. I honestly have no clue what will happen next in the Sundin saga, it has too many plot lines. If this trade goes through I will still respect Sundin. Gilmour played for the Habs and he is still a beloved Leafs captain, I don't see why the same courtesy can't be extended to Sundin. As a devoted Leafs and Sundin fan though, I will be upset to see him go. If he does however go to the Habs, I want to see good assets coming the Leafs way. At least a couple of draft prospects, which includes first rounders.

And when I read your question I thought Sundin had already been traded. I swear I gasped.

  3. I hope it happens. I think it'll be good for Montreal AND good for Sundin. He's getting eaten alive in Toronto and if he stays there the good won't be coming for a while. Montreal has a good shot at Lord Stanley, and I'd love to see Sundin hoist Stanley.

  4. I doubt it just because he is loyal to the Maple Leaf's

  5. Find out on July 1st. They just started talking a couple of days ago...

  6. If Mats went to Montreal, that would pretty much end any chance of my Devils winning the east...which btw, is already pretty minuscule

  7. Sundin is closing in on his years so if Sundin really wants to go to Montreal then they most likely will trade him so he can retire their and then they can pick up a couple of rookies that show some promise in the future!

  8. I was thinking I could tempt Fletcher with my Cooper jock strap from 1993

C'mon Lubers, you know your hockey. As a fellow Leafs hater you oughta know that the only reason Mats gets a point a game is he's one of very few Toronto players who know how to play the game, so he gets a lot of pp time.

namaste Singh as much as I respected Gilmour as a player even when he was a Leaf you can't expect that much for Mats .. he's 37 and doesn't have much left in the tank.

  9. If Sundin ever wants a cup he needs to get out of Toronto, I doubt it will happen because he loves losing and that means the leafs are perfect for him. A good trade for Sundin is a bucket of pucks.

  10. Gainey offered Higgins ++ at the trade deadline for Mats. Would Higgins be the bait for exclusivity. If they pull the deal I can see that. Mats has a 7Mill no movement contract sitting on his coffee table in Forest Hills. If he signs with Montreal that will make them the eastern favourite for the cup. With the cap going to 56 this year Montreal has the room. Either way Montreal is sending a third rounder for the conversation.

  11. i don't want it to happen. it'll be bad for the leafs and bad for the city. aside from that there's a deal and a 2nd round pick from montreal to get sundin.

i don't want any player from the habs aside from maybe saku koivu cause i love him.

  12. Mats is old news... literally.

Hossa is hitting the FA. They need to think straight.

PS: :( Im from Pit and kinds upset about it...

PSS: Montreal's #1 was Hossa last year. they might think of following it.

  13. TSN said that if Montreal gets SUNDIN they will give up a 2nd round draft in 09

I HOPE SUNDIN COMES TO MTL!!!!!

  14. Ya he said he was considering joining Montreal and he was talking to Montreal officials about signing wit hthem or being trded

  15. it wouldn't be a trade Sundin is going to be in the Free Agency! we don't need to trade 4 him just sign him!!

oh and if it does happen I will never make fun of Sundin again!!!
