Question:

Sunflower snapped - any treatments I can use?

My prize sunflower (I'm no gardening expert though it's about two feet tall) snapped in the wind this morning.

It was laying face-down in the soil. It's snapped at the base of the strong stalk, though not all of it has snapped off - about half of the rooty stalk is still in tact.

Is there anything I can use or do to ensure that the rest of the stalk/root can be mended?

What's best to do at this point in order to continue the sunflower's growth as strongly as possible in the circumstances?

  1. i like the popsicle/tape answer cuz i do that myself when something I'm growing gets broken.  In the future, considering staking your flowers.

  2. My grandma used to repair plants using popsicle sticks and that white first aid tape.  She would make a splint of four popsicle sticks around the stem at the point of injury and wrap the splint in the tape.

  3. When the main flower breaks it compensates by making many little flowers

  4. I used bandage from the first aid box on mine then tethered it using bamboo - it's about ten feet tall now, if a little bent in the middle. They do seem very resilient providing there's still a bit joined together. Good luck.

  5. Do not apply tape!  Just use a long stake and drive into the ground next to the plant.  Tie the plant to the stack with clothe strips.  If you feel that you have to wrap something around it then use burlap so the plant can get air.

  6. Give it some viagra..and let it get its natual hard on again! Mind hope it doesn't spill it seed! lmao

  7. Carefully return upright and wrap a wet bandage around the stem and tape if there is still a portion intact it may reheal but do it now!!!
