Sung Hwan Park and Jen Hao Hsu through to the quarter-final stage in the German Open GP Gold 2011
Korea’s Sung Hwan Park and Jen Hao Hsu from Chinese Taipei have won their matches in the Men’s Singles round-of-16 in the German Open GP Gold 2011, at Mulheim, Germany.
The number four seed of the tournament, Park, defeated Brice Leverdez of France in straight- sets, whereas, Jen overwhelmed Hong Kong’s shuttler, Nan Wei in straight games. Both players will be fighting against each other in the quarter-final of the event.
Park is one of the best players Korea has ever produced. In the round-of-16, the Korean opened his campaign against the French shuttler, Leverdez, in an impressive way as he took a wonderful lead of 11-5 in the opening half of the first set. After the one-minute
interval, the Korean remained in the driving seat and finished the game by a stunning difference of 21-13.
The second set was better in quality as compared to the previous set. This time, Leverdez played well in the first-half, as he was just two points behind the Korean. Park lifted the speed of the game and sprinted towards the destination in quick succession.
He won the second game with a decent margin of 21-15. The final score on the board was 21-13 and 21-16.
In another match, Jen Hao defeated the Hong Kong shuttler in a straight-set match, which took 38 minutes of a good fight from both sides. The Taipei shuttler heavily relied on his defence and net play that created opportunities to hit deep smashes on the
side-lines of his opponent. The score was 14-14, when Jen increased his speed and became more aggressive in his strokes. He scored the remaining points and won the set by 21-17.
In the second set, Jen remained ahead at 11-7 until the interval. After the break, Jen continued his impressive game and dictated the pace of the bird throughout the game and finished the encounter with a notable margin of 21-15. The match took 38 minutes
to complete and proved the supremacy of the Taipei shuttler with a 21-17 and 21-15 margin.
