Sung Hwan Park surges into Men’s Singles second round of the 2011 World Championships
Korea’s ace shuttler, Sung Hwan Park strolled into the Men’s Singles second round after ousting Hsuan Yi Hsueh of Chinese Taipei in the first round of the 2011 World Championships, at the Wembley Arena in England, on Monday, August 8.
Sung Hwan is among the top athletes in the arena of badminton, who have achieved the highest level of skills in almost all areas of the sport. He is currently placed at Number Nine in the world rankings of Men’s Singles and is also the ninth seed in the
mega event. The Korean proved his worth by beating the Taipei shuttler in straight games, by playing better badminton for 40 minutes.
The right-handed Korean opened his campaign against Hsuan Yi in an entertaining manner, as he executed some wonderful smashes on the sidelines of the court to keep his opponent far away from the bird. The power in his strokes spared no time for Hsuan Yi
to respond in an effective way. Until the break, Sung Hwan took a four-point advantage by reaching 11-7.
Hsuan Yi played different game after getting back from the interval, as he started to play more net shots to get the bird high in the air for hitting smashes. However, Sung Hwan also became quick at the net and started to play repeated net strokes which
helped him in getting into strong position. He finished-off the first game by working for 21 minutes with a 21-15 score on the board.
The Korean remained positive in all his strokes in the second game against the Taipei shuttler, who was also playing better this time. Hsuan Yi refused to give points at the net by picking the bird from the net tape, which put his rival in a little defensive
position.
However, Sung Hwan utilised his extensive experience and started to push the bird from the net in the corners of the rear court. The strategy worked well and he remained successful in winning the second game by a margin of 21-15 in 19 minutes. This opening
round match ended in 40 minutes with the result of 21-15 and 21-15.
