Sung Hyun, Hye Won become fourth semi-finalist in Mixed Doubles event of Indonesia Open 2012
Korea’s Mixed Doubles campaigners Ko Sung Hyun-Eom Hye Won remained invincible in quarter-final match against Joachim Fischer Nielsen-Christinna Pedersen and advanced into semi-finals of Djarum Indonesia Open on June 15, 2012.
This hard fought battle prolonged to one hour and four minutes before ending with final results of 15-21, 21-14 and 16-21.
Both teams displayed prime badminton craft in three gruelling sets to secure the honour but World Number four duo Joachim Fischer-Christinna Pedersen had to surrender after losing opening and closing sets.
The lower ranked but talented shuttlers Sung Hyun and Hye Won shook the base of Danish defence by launching a successful attack in very first game.
Though, they remained under influence of higher ranked opponents in the beginning but came out of that phase with couple of fruitful rallies just before the interval.
First half of the set heated up quickly with both contenders stretching to full to gain an early advantage but none of them could hit the mark.
The Koreans made a difference with four continuous points and reached at 9-7. They did not lose this rhythm and placed a decent total of 11-9 until half time.
After the interval, they managed to advance at steady pace and pocketed first match point with a significant difference in decisive figure of 21-15.
However, Joachim and Christinna also showed their class in very next set as they outclassed their rivals in all areas of game.
They dominated opening part by clinching seven vital points in a row after 3-4 and then maintained this advantage all the way to final stage.
The second half was completely one-sided affair as the Danish couple strengthened their grip with seven uninterrupted rallies and levelled match score with a staggering margin of 21-14.
Third and final set kept swinging between two teams until 12-12 but then the twosome of Sung Hyun and Hye Won tipped the scale in their favour by registering a finishing total of 21-16 on the board.
The Koreans will now try to surpass higher ranked Thai pair Sudket Prapakamol-Saralee Thoungthongkam to ensure their presence in title match of the event.
